Attracted by the sight of nearby water, a Night Heron circled the area for a short while but declined to settle. The characteristic striping on its neck could be clearly seen from below. The head and neck shape also gave it a rather reptilian appearance and its long hind clays projected well backwards in flight. Purple Herons winter in tropical Africa.
