Little Egret (and Snipe), Jeremy Lane, Lancaster

February 22, 2010:

The bird was disturbed when feeding in a deep drainage ditch alongside Jeremy Lane, Thurnham. There was another egret nearby whilst a Snipe skulked in the longer grass.

April 11 (0), 14 (2), 17 (32), 18 (74), 19 (84), 20 (108), 21 (127), 22 (c.90), 23 (120), 24 (106), 25 (265), 26 (c.225), 27 (290), 28 (122), 29 (226), 30 (278), May 2 (c.260); I was away after this date but reports said that numbers decreased rapidly after May 2.

A high degree of luck is certainly required in flight photography! Before this bird was lost from sight, I only managed 5 shots, 4 of which were quite useless. I've never had one in range before or since!
